The battle between team Rampage and team Rashad continued on Wednesday night, on The Ultimate Fighter 10: heavyweights, with the last preliminary fight being between team Rashad’s Mike Wessel and team Rampage’s Marcus “Big Baby” Jones. This fight was a must win for Rampage due to the fact that he was down seven fights to none leading up to last night’s fight. It was also a must win because of how last week’s fight ended.
Last week’s fight between Matt Mitrione (team Rashad) and Scott Junk (team Rampage) went to decision and team Rashad ended up winning. Rampage, who has been kind of a baby throughout this whole season, stormed off completely demolishing a door while on his way to his team’s warm up/ dressing room. The door demolishing really emphasized to everyone watching that Rampage was in desperate need of a win. (And imagine if Jones wouldn’t have won the last fight. Rampage just might have tried to beat on Rashad next, instead of another door.) Anyway… last night Rampage was in need of at least one win to have a from his team move on to the quarter finals, and that fighter was Jones.
Former NFL player Jones won yesterday’s fight against Wessel (a former UFC fighter) by arm bar submission in about a minute and a half of the first round. The arm bar was so intense that many of the fighters and coaches, even UFC President Dana White, thought his shoulder was broken. Luckily Wessel got up and was able to walk away from the fight with only a bruised ego.
After the fight ended, and Rampage stopped celebrating, he, Rashad, and White got together to decide which fighters would be matched up for the quarter finals; the first fight is between Roy “Big Country” Nelson (who beat TUF favorite Kimbo Slice), and Justin Wren (both from team Rashad). The third fight is Brendan Schaub (team Rashad) vs. Jon Madsen (team Rashad). The fourth is James McSweeney (team Rashad) vs. Matt Mitrione (team Rashad), and lastly Darrill Schoonover (team Rashad) vs. Marcus Jones (team Rampage).
It’ll be interesting to watch all these fights, especially the last one because Rampage chose Jones’ opponent.
i saw a guy demolishing a door on spike TV and was like, "wtf is this?" haha. good blog though.
